The school choice bill was just derailed in Columbia today by a SINGLE vote.
The bill, which would have offered tuition tax credits and tax credit funded tuition scholarships, was struck down through a procedural move that “tabled” the proposal, effectively ending all debate.
The count was 60 in favor (of tabling the bill, to kill it) and 59 opposed (those who wanted to keep debating and pass the bill).
Among those voting to derail the bill were several Republican lawmakers who had made public commitments to support the legislation – including Rita Allison (R-Spartanburg).
Please, take a moment to contact your lawmaker, and thank them for supporting the bill, or let them know your frustration if they did not.
Those “Republicans” voting to table the bill included: ALLISON, Rita BRADY, Joan; BRANNON, Doug; COLE, Derham; COOPER, Dan; FORRESTER, Mike; FRYE, Marion; GAMBRELL, Mike; HIOTT, David; HORNE, Jenny; MOSS, Steve; PARKER, Steve; PINSON, Gene; SKELTON, B. R.; TALLON, Eddie; WHITMIRE, Bill.
School choice remains a long term fight for educational freedom in South Carolina, so it is especially important to let lawmakers who did support the bill know how much their commitment meant to parents and taxpayers across the state.

This attachment is the roll call vote list – remember the “N” or “Nays” were those who support the school choice bill, and voted against the move to table and derail the bill.
